John Krom 2014 Congressional Candidate Indiana District 5

Biography of John Krom from LinkedIn

[2014 Bio] John was raised in Wabash County Indiana. In high school John was class president all four years (he jokingly says that his classmates didn’t have much to choose from). John won a full scholarship to Wabash College and graduated in 1971 with a major in economics in a minor in mathematics. He married his high school sweetheart, Liz, who is an occupational therapist. They have lived in Noblesville since 1980 and have two grown children and five grandchildren.

John worked in the construction industry for 24 years, mostly in purchasing, contracting and sales. He started his own lumber company, selling lumber to custom home builders. His first experience with the overreaching arm of the Federal government was an embargo against Canadian lumber, which was good for U.S. lumber mills but disastrous for the home buying public. The embargo caused lumber prices to double within a week. John decided to close his doors before everything was lost.

During that time John helped form Habitat for Humanity of Hamilton County. He was his first board president, and later became his first executive director. Five years later, John became executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Indiana, helping Habitat affiliates throughout Indiana. After that he became executive director of Indiana 211, an organization that provides free information and referral for social services throughout Indiana. During John’s tenure, Indiana 211 call centers received over one million calls from Hoosiers in need./blockquote>
